..The stuff you learn beforehand will never be one-tenth as useful as the stuff you learn the hard way, on the job.

About This Quote

In the book, How to Win Friends and Influence People, Dale Carnegie wrote about how to gain people’s trust. He said, “The stuff you learn beforehand will never be one-tenth as useful as the stuff you learn the hard way, on the job.” However, we often find that we know all there is to know about a subject – we know all the facts – and then we go into a situation and all we can think of is what we know. We freeze and we don’t move forward. But, if you really want to be successful, you have to make mistakes.

You have to make mistakes without worrying about what you’ve already learned or what everyone else thinks. You have to take risks because if you quit making mistakes, you won’t learn anything new or useful and your life will be stagnant and unproductive. When you realize that it is okay to make mistakes and that it is even better to fail than it is to succeed, then you will stop worrying about what others think and start moving forward in your life.
